High-voltage power systems often encounter high-energy surges that must be redirected to protect power lines and equipment. Metal Oxide Surge Arresters are highly efficient at diverting surges in electrical power systems, offering exceptional reliability, excellent protective characteristics, and temporary overvoltage tolerance. These surge arresters feature a gapless construction housed in silicon rubber, providing a reliable and cost-effective design.
Surge arresters are specifically engineered to meet the most demanding service conditions. Surge Arresters represent a state-of-the-art product utilizing advanced rubber technology for surge protection in the medium voltage range.
These surge arresters are manufactured within a well-defined quality management system and comply with international standards such as IEC, IS, ANSI, and more.
For optimal performance, our surge arresters are generally recommended for pole or pedestal mounting in a vertical position. By adhering to SRI’s recommended clearance between the arrester and adjacent equipment, potential failures due to flashovers and electrical overstress can be prevented.

Metal oxide varistors are composed of a specially formulated compound consisting of zinc oxide and small quantities of selected metal oxides. These ingredients are blended in powdered form, then pressed into discs and subjected to high-temperature firing with a specific temperature profile. This process results in a highly non-linear resistance characteristic.
SRI's silicon compound is formulated to offer excellent hydrophobic characteristics and a balanced combination of UV and tracking performance, which effectively limits leakage current.
The High Voltage Ground Lead Disconnecter is equipped with a Ground Lead Disconnect (GLD) to separate the surge arrester from the system, preventing line lockouts. It safeguards insulators from lightning and switching over-voltages and is available for systems with voltages ranging from 3kV to 36kV. In case of arrester overload and failure, it disconnects the ground lead to prevent explosive arrester body failure and provides a visible indication of arrester failure on overhead distribution lines.
The composite structure is constructed from a fiberglass-reinforced synthetic resin, engineered to provide maximum mechanical strength. The silicon rubber housing further enhances insulation withstand strength for the SRI arrester.
Specially designed and processed aluminum alloy castings are affixed to each end of the arrester. These end aluminum castings establish a secure electrical connection with the internal metal oxide varistor (MOV) block stack assembly.
SRI offers precision-manufactured Insulating Bases for Surge Arresters, widely used in power distribution and transformer industries. These bases are dimensionally accurate and highly durable. They support high voltage lightning arresters with surge counting devices mounted near the upper terminal. The insulating arrangement prevents direct discharge to the ground, enabling the surge counter to indicate both surges and continuous leakage current.
